Have You Heard About Beard Dandruff?

Beard Dandruff

Beard DandruffIf you think that dandruff could only develop on your hair and scalp, think again, because there is also what you call beard dandruff, which usually happens in men. Dandruff could form on the beard of men if they don’t observe proper hygiene, like shaving off the hair on their face. Sometimes, they experience formation of dandruff on their beard because they are exposed to too much dust and dirt that they don’t even have the chance to clean their beards.

Ask Men stated that, dandruff is white or gray flaky skin that peels from the scalp. It is perfectly natural and pretty much harmless, but it can be esthetically unappealing. Having dandruff doesn’t mean you are unclean or sick. Dandruff is a form of shedding of the skin. The human body sheds its entire skin every 24 days. Once skin dies, it falls off little by little. Normally, sloughing dead skin is unnoticeable because it happens gradually and in small pieces, but in the case of dandruff, the process is a bit different.

Dandruff is the process of shedding skin very quickly and as a result, it peels in big chunks and the flakes are not quite dead yet. It’s localized in specific regions — the scalp and beard — and depending on the type of dandruff, can also include the chest, eyebrows, ears, and back. The itching that accompanies dandruff is an inflammation of the skin. A person may have a severe case of dandruff called seborrheic dermatitis if redness appears with greasy scaling on the face, eyelashes and eyebrows. If that’s the case, then the individual should consult a doctor. The condition might be a little more complicated and the following treatments might not work.

There are several ways to prevent dandruff to form on your beard. You could always shave it if you notice that dandruff starts to form there. You could also wash it on a daily basis just to keep it clean. You could also trim your beard just to make sure that the excess dirty hair are shaved off.

eHowHealth provided the different ways on how to lose your dandruff which includes:

Recognize the symptoms. Dandruff is excessive scaling and flaking of the skin. When in your beard, you will find white flakes in your hair, clothing and bed linens. Itching can also be associated with beard dandruff.

Buy dandruff shampoo. Many times men with beard dandruff will also experience dandruff on their scalps and in their eyebrows. Choosing the right shampoo to treat your dandruff is important. There are many different dandruff shampoos on the market. Be sure that you choose one that contains tar, coal, salicylic acid, sulfur, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione. Look on the ingredient list and if the shampoo claims to treat dandruff but does not include one of these ingredients, do not purchase it.

Use the shampoo. When showering, use the dandruff shampoo on your beard. Many dandruff shampoos recommend that users leave the shampoo in the hair for a certain amount of time. Wet your beard, apply the dandruff shampoo and let it stay in your hair as recommended.

Rinse. Now that you’ve completed the shampoo process, rinse it out. Sometimes dandruff is exacerbated because shampoos are not thoroughly rinsed out of the hair. Be sure to use several applications of water on your beard.

Dry your beard thoroughly after showering.

Reduce stress. Dandruff is linked to stress, so be sure to get plenty of sleep, drink at least eight glasses of water daily, have a regular exercise routine and eat a healthy diet that includes vegetables, fruits and fiber. Avoid situations that are unduly stressful.

Switch shampoos. Try different dandruff shampoos. When treating dandruff, in your beard or scalp, it is recommended that the dandruff shampoo only be used two to three times per week. After you finish a bottle of one dandruff shampoo, buy a different product next time. This alternating of dandruff shampoos will keep the flakes at bay.

Always remember that dandruff dwells in places that are abundant with hair, especially if it is unclean. Men who consider having beards a fashion, and neglect to keep it clean usually suffer from beard dandruff.
