Dandruff can be a very embarrassing condition. Dandruff is actually the flaking scalp that falls like snowflakes. This settles on the brow, clothes, and shoulders, which could be very embarrassing. However, this condition is very irritating and is even associated with bacteria in case there would be heavy formation of scales that come from the skin’s horny layer.

 

What Causes Dandruff?

There are only a few known causes of dandruff. These are:

  • Impairment of the general health
  • Toxic condition of the body. This is usually brought about by having an unhealthy type of diet.
  • Constipation
  • Infectious disease
  • Emotional tension
  • Shampoos that are considered as harsh to the hair.
  • Exposure to cold
  • General exhaustion

 

Diagnosis, Signs and Symptoms of Dandruff

Some of the common symptoms of having dandruff are the following:

  • When the hair is brushed or rubbed, the scaliness also increases.
  • Lumps or crusts. It isn’t all the time that dandruff would just be white flakes that would fall from the hair. These lumps or crusts are also considered as dandruff.
  • Itching. Dandruff is really itchy. You might experience having a red scalp due to vigorous scratching.

 

Remedies, Treatment and Cure for Dandruff

The first thing that people would normally do whenever they start experiencing dandruff is to go to the nearest market and look for products that are considered as dandruff-free. Indeed, dandruff may be eradicated by these hair products but they also cause damage to the hair because of the synthetic chemicals that are present in these hair products. If a permanent cure is desired, a more constitutional approach should be made.

  • Keep the hair and scalp clean. This would help in minimizing the accumulation of dead cells.
  • Brush hair daily. Brushing everyday can help in improving the circulation of the blood in the head. It also helps in removing flakiness. If you are not yet familiar with the right method of brushing the hair, is to have hear down towards the ground, then  the direction of brushing must be from the nape of the neck towards the roots.
  • Massage the scalp. A lot of people find this to have worked for them. They would simply massage their scalp everyday to stimulate circulation. It could be done on a daily basis. It could be done before brushing the hair and it could also be done after brushing. This helps in stimulating the areas behind your ears.

Some Home Remedies

These simple home remedies could also help:

  • Use fenugreek seeds. Using fenugreek seeds in various meals is one home remedy that you can have. You can soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds. When these seeds get soft, you would also have a good paste in the morning. Remember that these seeds should be grounded before they can be used.
  • Apply the fenugreek paste on the scalp. The paste must be left on the head for 30 minutes. A special solution must then be needed to wash with this type of paste. This solution would be either a soap nut or a shikakai.
  • Use fresh lime juice for last rinse. When you wash your hair, you can use this juice on the last rise. This would leave the hair glowing and will definitely prevent dandruff. It also removes the stickiness of the hair.
  • Wash hair twice in a week using green gram powder in curd.
  • Massage one’s hair for at least half an hour with curd. This must have been kept open for 3 days. You could also massage the hair using a few drops of fresh lime juice. This must be mixed with amla juice and must be done each night before getting to bed.
  • Dilute cider vinegar with an equal amount of water and dab the solution on the hair using a cotton wool between shampooing. When you add cider vinegar to the last rinsing water, you are also applying an effective means to deal with dandruff.

Some Diet Changes

  • All fruit diet for five days. This is probably among the best remedies when it comes to changing your diet to overcome dandruff. One must eat 3 meals in a day which consists of fresh and juicy fruits. These would include pears, grapes, apples, pineapple, grapefruit, and peaches.
  • Do not take in citrus fruits, bananas, and strewed or tinned fruits if undergoing an all-fruit diet.
  • Take only unsweetened lemon or plain and hot water.
  • Warm water enema daily. This is highly recommended since it would help in cleansing the bowels and also helps in eradicating constipation.
  • After going through an all fruit diet, patient could then undergo well-balanced diet. The diet must put emphasis on raw foods like fruits and vegetables, raw nuts, sprouted seeds, whole grain cereals, and brown rice.
  • Some short periods of an all fruit diet might actually be necessary at monthly intervals. This will be done until the skin improves.
  • Restrict food intake on those foods that are considered as starchy, fatty, and protein rich foods.
  • Avoid foods like sugar, meat, strong tea or coffee, pickles, condiments, refined and processed foods.
  • Candies, soft drinks, ice cream, and other products that are made using sugar and white flour must be avoided as well.
  • Getting the head to be exposed to sunlight is also one very useful measure in treating dandruff.
  • Ultimately, make sure that the body is in good health all the time, since this is also one good way of clearing your head from dandruff.
