Getting Healthy Skin

We all want that glowing, healthy looking skin that we see in magazines and on TV. The question is, how do we go about getting it?  If you’re looking to improve the condition of your skin, and most especially on your face, here are some great tips to put you on the right path.

 

Put it in your body

You are what you eat, so putting the right foods in your body will certainly help to improve skin condition.  A diet high in sugars and fats can increase breakouts or inflammation.  A diet high in vegetables and fruits will give skin the right fuel for cells and increase its ability to maintain collagen levels.  When it comes to getting enough hydration, skip the sugar filled energy drinks and stick with water.  If you’re partial to fruit flavours try adding a squirt of natural lemon or lime juice, or toss a few berries into your water bottle for great taste without the chemical additives.

 

A regular exercise routine

If you exercise regularly you’re increasing blood and oxygen flow throughout your body.  Blood helps to carry nutrients to cells, including your skin cells, so a daily routine of at least a few minutes of exercise will help not only improve overall health, but can target skin in particular.  Sweating can help your body release toxins and give endorphins a great boost. Exercise can also help alleviate stress, which can show up in several types of unwanted skin conditions, including breakouts and rashes.

 

Good hygiene

This might seem an obvious one, but how many times have you fallen asleep without bothering to take your makeup off first?  Makeup can clog pores and cause skin breakouts to occur, so ensure that you’re taking the few minutes required each evening to cleanse it properly, leaving pores to breathe all night.  Besides showering regularly and washing with a soap that won’t irritate your skin, rinsing well is key.  Soap residue can also be the culprit when it comes to breakouts or inflammation.  When drying its best to get into the habit of only patting dry instead of rubbing.  

 

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

There are so many products on the market today that you’re sure to find one that will moisturize without leaving skin feeling oily or greasy.  Try a quick absorb cream heavy on natural ingredients and light on chemicals.  Experiment with a few until you get something that fits your particular skin just right, and moisturize before putting makeup on and again each evening after cleaning your skin.

 

Spa at home

You can visit a spa and take advantage of the quiet and relaxation you’ll get as part of your skin care package, but many spa treatments can be accomplished easily at home.  Find a quiet atmosphere where you won’t be interrupted and indulge in a steam treatment, for example.  You can find steam machines at most drug stores, and these will help not only open but also cleans pores of impurities.
